FALL FASHION WEEK 2009
NYC is atwitter and abuzz with models, designers, buyers, celebs and photags rushing the streets! True, this show is for Fall 2009 and we are just going into Spring 2009, but how else does one know what to buy for the store floors? What better way to see the latest creations than on the runways paraded by gorgeous, long-legged confident models with a new idea at the end of each carpet?

Often, fashion is a way to cheer the masses, give an outlet for frustrations of economy, government and political woes of the world. Fashion 2009, however, seems to be a different story. Fall 2009 presents the woman "undone", with low ponies (off-center, non-perfect part with a ponytail tied low at the nape of the neck with long, loose, face-framing bangs falling on either side of the face giving the impression that her hair was done - a few days ago!) and other tell-tale signs of a woman in danger of herself or who has been struggling with little reward. There are quite alot of angles in the styles overall.

This is said to be an Eighties' revival of sorts (why!?), so we are seeing shadows of the men's uniform trend, milder shoulder pads, men's hats, the giant belts (you know, the kind that they crucified Jessica Simpson for wearing?), bright colors, bold patterns, heavy textures, tights, leg warmers, furry/fuzzy boots and more "fun from the thirties and eighties" styles! Through a different lens, one could see homeless people from the thirties.

Makeup provides color popping lips and eyes, but not at the same time. A matte face seems to be in favor, but we will touch on makeup in another post.

Hyaluronic Acid Shortage?

We had a few more orders than usual, so went to make an early order from our wonderful regular supplier. When we arrived, however, we were told that the 100% Hyaluronic Acid powder was not currently in stock, a disappointing answer, but interesting nonetheless. Fortunately, ModelSupplies does not rely on any one supplier at any time for ingredients, so our buyers went on to the next suppliers and found the HA powder there, however at a higher price. We at ModelSupplies do not raise our prices in times like these and still accept orders, giving the opportunity for a refund, if preferred, even though the wait would be only 1 week at most.

ModelSupplies has unconvered a Valentine’s Day mystery! What happened to all of the Hyaluronic Acid powder? I am very happy to say we have secured some and do hope it will be enough to get everyone through…but what happened to the supply? There have been an inordinate amount of products on TV using the “HA” tag, but haven’t there always? The 2nd thing that stands out to ModelSupplies is the fact that so many came directly to us - we’re happy to say! We are happy and puzzled. That must mean that many use the same primary supplier, but do not have sufficient backup supply in place for emergencies. It’s a good thing we are ModelSupplies. Someone else might take advantage of the situation. Stick with us! We’ll get you through! We shipped a BUNCH today!

Erectile Tissue in your Nose & Ears?

I would like to preface this article by saying there is no scientific basis for the conjecture I am about to write. The scientific evidence does, however, support that erectile tissue does indeed exist in your nose and ears!

In more than a few radio shows at ModelSuppliesRadio.com, I have advised people just as I was advised years ago by a French woman, not to touch their face, particularly nose, ears and eyes. The reason not to touch the eyes is obvious since that is the thinnest skin on your face, next to your lips, and will cause undue wrinkling and lines and crowsfeet to form. The reason the French woman gave for not touching your nose and ears was that it would cause them to become large and distorted.

She pointed to living evidence. All around us on the bus where we were seated, men seemed to have unusually large noses and ears that were completely disproportionate with the rest of their features. Her hypothesis was that they were that way because these men must have blown their noses, rubbed them and pulled on their ears mercilessly over the years. I thought at the time it was probably related to sound pollution and generational more than anything. Pictures of future generations with holes for ears and noses began to alarm my imagination.

Back then, it would never have occurred to me that there was any relation between the penis and clitoris and the nose and ears! The launch of a new Fox TV show, "Lie to Me", brought this to my attention and had me Googling for the answer within seconds of hearing it uttered. The TV show mentions only men, while wikipedia mentions both sexes. My business is skin care, so I should know about this stuff. First search brought me to trusty Wikipedia.

Wikipedia defines erectile tissue as, "...tissue in the body that can become erect, usually by becoming engorged with blood." In the TV show, this information was used to explore whether you can tell when someone is lying or telling the truth.

In my skin care line, this information will tell us a few things about T-zones, embarrassed burning ears, larger pores on the nose, perhaps. When crossed against the cold hands from "fight or flight", it makes me think that someone with larger pores on their nose may be easily aroused, but are probably generally self-confident. Of course, I have no idea as yet, but do recognize that this is a significant difference, quite astonishing (to me, at least) and is worth investigating. Comments are welcome!

President & First Lady Obama are such a beautiful and statuesque couple gracing the country with a powerful presence desperately needed to bring the USA back into focus. "Self-Disciplined Love" replaces "Tough Love" perhaps, with most Americans on board and ready to do the work - and willing to do the work. The question is what type of work shall we do? What is the work that will matter? What can we do to actually change things?

I hope we will all step up and help our new President.

Percentages & Possibilities

Okaaaayyyy...That was quite the breather! Sorry for the lapse!

Here is something that is bothering me lately about some of the products I see listed on eBay, Etsy and in stores, etc. - so everywhere! It is also a problem I grapple with personally when formulating, because you want to have it all in one product, right? That is what we are always going for. And uninformed customers may accuse the industry of making money by offering several products when only 1 is needed....not so! You cannot fit everything into one product. Someone would have done it, called it "lord of the products" and taken the prize!

Since there is a minimum to maximum percentage for each ingredient, how is it that there are products that seem to have EVERYTHING in it at the maximum percentages, even though it would be mathematically impossible? It's like that old adage about giving 110% - except there is surely error or deception involved. One cannot have a solution that is power packed with ingredients like the following... I am all for it - and strive toward it, except you eventually run out of space! So it can only follow that if there are too many ingredients listed on the label or ad, then the ingredients are not at a high enough percentage to do the job. I am missing some from this list and will come back to revise, but this will give you a good idea. Get out your calculator! Look at the recommended use levels for these:

Argireline - at least 5%

Caffeine - 1-5%

CoQ10 - 1%

DMAE - 1-6%

Hyaluronic Acid - 0.25% to 2%

Idebenone - 1%

Matriyxl 3000 - 3-8%

Pepha Tight - 1 - 5%

R-ALA - 25%

Salicylic Acid - 0.5-2% (up to 6% in foot cream)

Shea Butter - up to 100%

Vitamin C-Ester - up to 25%

This will serve as a nice little index! I think I will keep it updated :-) And add ingredients to it - so watch those percentages! And if you are adding something just so you can name it on the label, just save it for your next project, because you may just be throwing your money away!
